We'll be comparing a Loire Sauvignon Blanc against a Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc; a New Zealand Pinot Noir v a Burgundian classic, and two Cabernet Sauvignon based wines - one from Bordeaux, and one from South America!

New World - Old World wine tasting

Wednesday 07 June 2017
7.00pm, The Gables, Foxrock Village

WINES 1 & 2 - Sauvignon Blanc
Craggy Range Te Muna Road Sauvignon Blanc 2014, Martinborough, New Zealand
€25.00 (retail)
'Offering intense citrus & guava flavours, it's rich minerality leads to a slightly exotic Sancerre style wine'.
&
Sancerre 2016, Domaine D & J Crochet, Loire, France   €25.00
Excellent example of a fresh, crisp clean Sancerre, with a touch of gooseberries on the nose and a long restrained mineral finish.

In Theory, these wines which are grown 20,000km apart are similar......but...

Wines 3 & 4 - Blends
Cotes de Beaune Villages 2013, Bouchard Pere & Fils, Burgundy, France   €27.00

Nice deep ruby colour. Fresh, spicy nose, overflowing with red fruit. Pleasantly delicate, well balanced and good length of flavour.

&
Escarpment Pinot Noir 2014, Martinborough, New Zealand.  €30.00

Perfume, elegant fruit flavours, and soft ripe tannins are all hallmarks of this Pinot Noir. A very traditional 'French - style' wine production, from new (30%) French oak barrels etc but quite different in style!

Wines 5 & 6 - Cabernet Sauvignon
Chateau Logis de Sipian 2014, Medoc, Bordeaux, France  €17.99
A classic medium-bodied claret with a modern, un-oaked red fruit bouquet and a supple palate of ripe cherry flavours. Cabernet blend with Merlot (and a little Cab Franc).
&
Domaine Bousquet Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve 2010, Tupungato, Mendoza, Argentina  €22.00  'organic'
'Refreshing redcurrant fruits, intertwined with smoky notes from light oak ageing'
This wine is made in Argentina by ..Frenchmen!  They moved to Mendoza and chose this high altitude region as ideal for their wines.
