TUESDAY 09 MAY 2017 - ITALIAN WINE TASTING
A tasting of new, exciting, interesting wines and some old favourites from among the huge diversity of wines available from Italy. We will as usual be tasting some different (but not strange!) wines.

Canapés/Nibbles/Antipasti served with the tasting.

We'll be tasting (subject to confirmation of vintage etc):

Janare Falanghina del Sannio DOP 2015, Campania, Italy    €15.99 (retail)
Falanghina is an ancient grape variety mostly associated with Campania (Naples) and is light enough for lunch, fresh enough to drink in the garden and tangy enough to sip with food. While in Ireland we treat it as an excellent choice with seafood etc it also tastes good with the local tomato-heavy Neapolitan dishes.
Streets ahead of Pinot Grigio at a similar price point - but you decide!!

Fiano 2014, Terre Siciliane IGP, Miopasso, Sicilia  €14.99
Fiano is another 'low key' variety, generally only found in Campania & Sicily.  Unlike other Italian white varietals, Fiano is - according to Jancis Robinson & Oz Clarke - age worthy! It is intensely flavoured & aromatic, and with aging offers honey notes, a touch of spice & nutty flavours.

Santoro Primitivo IGP 2015, Puglia, Italy  €12.99
A cracking wine at a great price. This is the new vintage of one of our more popular wines. Robust flavours, ripe tannins, no oak - you could have this everyday for the value alone

Montepulciano d'Abruzzo 2015 DOC, Vini Fantini, Farnese ORGANIC  €16.99
Well known for their rich easy drinking qualities, this organic Montepulciano has spicy damson fruits on the nose and a velvety smooth, luscious plummy finish.
But don't take my word for it, we'll be tasting it !!

Solicchiata IGT Etna, Silcilia, Italy €28.00
This is a Bordeaux blend (Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon) from grapes grown on the black volcanic soil of Mount Etna! With fruit & spice on the nose, it's full bodied with fresh & lively tannins.

Poggia Sant' Enrico, Vino Nobile di Montepulciano 2007 DOCG, Carpineto  €55.00
A big powerful Single vineyard wine (100% Sangiovese) from the slopes just outside Montepulciano, Tuscana. Full-bodied with black fruit & pepper, a touch of vanilla from the short (6-8 weeks) in French & American oak. A real treat on a cold night (or any night!)

--This tasting is €25.00 per person, and includes nibbles etc
