A superb offering that is Mourvedre led but despite that is soft subtle and smooth.
Made by Eric Fabre who was technical director at Chateau Lafite Rothschild, it is a superb wine and brilliant value!
We came to La Clape for the Mourvèdre: I enjoy its warm spices flavours as well as its dense and thin tannic structure. Grown in the cooler La Clape appellation, delicately vinified and thoroughly nursed, the Grand Vin reveals the elegance of the South.
Robert Parker's The Wine Advocate says 92 POINTS 'a sensational blend of 55% Mourvèdre, 25% Syrah, 15% Grenache and 5% Carignan. It exhibits lots of crème de cassis and black raspberry fruit to go with subtle oak (which fades with time in the glass), melted licorice and graphite. This gives way to a medium-bodied, pure, elegant red that has gorgeous purity of fruit, a great mid-palate and fine tannin that emerges on the finish. This is high quality juice that can be enjoyed now, or cellared for 4-5 years, possibly longer' (written 2015 so plenty of time!)
