We discovered this wine by chance and what a stroke of luck! We'd asked for the Grand Vin (also available online HERE) but got this in error, and were delighted!
Eric Fabre runs this estate (2 vineyards that he re-united in the early 2000's) having served his trade as techical director at Chateau Lafite Rothschild no less! He now makes great wine in La Clape, Lanquedoc.
The d'Angles Classique is a Syrah/Grenache/Mourvedre blend with according to Eric himself: the Syrah for fruit and spices delicately vinified and blended with Grenache for roundness, a dash of Mourvèdre giving structure and the refreshing minty touch from the terroir of La Clape appellation. A tasty, smooth and balanced wine to enjoy without complexes !
Robert Parker says ' 90 points, offers pretty, classic La Clape notes of iodine, black raspberries, crushed flowers and olive as well as a medium-bodied, elegant, balanced and character-filled style. Count me a fan and I’d happily drink it anytime over the coming 4-5 years. It lacks the complexity and length of the Grand Vin, but gives you a solid taste of the style of this estate for not much buck.
A great discovery!
