For those of us who aren't TD's or Senior Bankers and have to work hard to earn enough to buy a nice bottle of wine, here's a quick breakdown of what THEY take!! and don't forget that the bar in Leinster House is subsidised - by us!

WINES

Retail Price   €7.99    Government takes €4.27   - 54%

Retail Price   €8.85    Government takes €4.43   - just over 50%

Retail Price   €10.99  Government takes €4.83   - 44%

SPIRITS
(assuming 40%alc - standard strength whiskey)

Retail Price   €19.99   Government takes €14.05   - 71%

Retail Price   €24.99   Government Takes  €14.99  - 60%

Retail Price    €29.99  Government takes   €15.92   - 53%

So for a bottle of Whiskey that costs €19.99 in a shop,
the Government TAKES €14.05

leaving €5.94 to be shared by the following

the producer, Retailer, Shipper, Delivery man, Warehouse operator, Glass manufacturer, Label printer, Cork/closure manufacturer etc

SEEMS FAIR DOESN'T IT!!!
